2. Self Esteem.
It is an important aspect of our self.
It is how we judge our own values or worth.
Studies indicates that by the age of 6 to 7 years, children develop self-esteem at
least in four areas
1. Academic competence which
2. Social competence gets
3. Physical/athletic competence refined
4. Physical appearance with age
The overall sense of Self-Esteem can be defined
As our capacity to view ourselves in terms of
“stable dispositions”
This allows us to combine separate self-evaluations
into a general psychological image of ourselves.
NOTE:
Effect of self-esteem on children
Children with high
academic self-esteem •perform better in schools
Children with high •are more liked by their peers
social self-esteem
Children with low •display anxiety, depression and
self-esteem in all areas high anti-social behavior.
