II. According to CharakSamhita
a. It is one of the famous treatise on Ayurveda in India.
b. It classifies people into the categories – vata, pitta and kapha
on the basis of three humoural elements, “tridosha”
c. Each refers to a type of temperament, called prakriti (basic nature) of a
person.
III. Typology of Personality
a. It is based on the trigunasi.esattva, rajas, and tamas.
b. Sattvaguna includes attributes like –
1. Cleanliness
2. Truthfulness
3. Dutifulness
4. Detachment
5. Discipline
c. Rajas Guna includes intensive activity such as –
1. Desire for sense gratification
2. Dissatisfaction
3. Envy for others
4. Materialistic mentality
d. Tamasguna characterises –
1. Anger
2. Arrogance
3. Depression
4. Laziness
5. Feeling of helplessness
e. All the three gunas are present in each and every person in different
degrees.
f. The dominance of one or the other guna may lead to a particular type of
behaviour.
IV. According to Sheldon
a. He proposed three types of personality based on body build and
temperament.
b. Types include – Endomorphic, Mesomorphic and Extomorphic.
c. The endomorphs are –
1. They are fat, soft and round.
2. By temperament, they are relaxed and sociable.
d. The mesomorphs –
1. They have strong musculature, are rectangular with a strong
body build.
