Quarter to

When the minute hand is on 9, the time shows 45 minutes or a Quarter to.

 Quarter to is the opposite of quarter past.

 Example : Look at the clock given below.

 Here the hour hand is near to 12 and the minute hand is on 9. So the time is quarter to 12

or 11 : 45.

 It means there is a quarter of an hour (15 minutes) left until 12:00. A quarter to 12

is before 12:00.

 Therefore, Quarter to 12 is the same as 11:45.
