Activity---5.3 NCERT
Aim-To study the process of osmosis using egg.
Materials Required:
Glass beaker, two raw eggs, sugar/salt solution, dil. Hydrochloric acid and water.
How to proceed:
Experimental Set-up
1. Keep two eggs in dil. HCl for about one hour to dissolve the shell of the eggs.
2. Wash the de-shelled eggs with water thoroughly.
3. Take two beakers – one half filled with water and the other with saturated
sugar/salt solution.
4. Put one egg in each of the beakers.
5. After about four hours, observe the two de shelled eggs.
Observation:
• The de-shelled egg kept in water looks swollen with increased volume.
• The other de-shelled egg kept in the sugar solution has shrunk in size.
