• Change is the most permanent feature of any society.
• Social change refers to transformation in the methods of thinking &
working of people.
• It is basically changes in social structures and social relationships of a
society.
• According to M.D. Jenson, “Social change may be defined as modification
in ways of doing and thinking of people.”
• Anderson & Parker, “Social change involves alteration in the structure or
functioning of social forms or processes themselves.”
• Social change refers to changes in structure and culture of the society.
• Social change remains a very broad term. It try to classify by its sources or
causes, by its nature or the kind of impact it has on society and by its pace
or speed.
• For ex- Evolution
• It is a kind of change that takes place slowly over a long period of time.
• This term was given by the natural scientist Charles Darwin.
• He proposed a theory of how living organisms evolve or change slowly over
centuries by adapting themselves to natural circumstances.
• He emphasized the idea of “The Survival of the fittest.”
