ASSIMILATION OF FOOD

Blood carries the absorbed food (nutrients) to the cells in all parts of the body for
production of energy, growth and repair or even storage.

               1. Glucose- Glucose combines with oxygen (inhaled) to release energy.
               2. Fatty acids and glycerol- They are stored in the body under the skin as energy
               reserves.

               3. Amino acids- They are utilised for growth and repair of the bod

               LARGE INTESTINE

                    It is a 1.5 m long tube.

 The undigested and unabsorbed food is passed to the large intestine.

 No digestion takes place in this organ.

 Function of large intestine - It absorbs water and necessary salts from
                       undigested food.
 Due to removal of water, the undigested food becomes semi solid. This
undigested food (semi solid) is stored in the last part of the large intestine for
                       some time

 The solid waste is stored in the rectum in the form of faeces and expelled from
the body through anus by a process called defecation.
