Absorption of food
• Absorption –When digested food pass into the blood vessels or capillaries in the
walls of the small intestine. This process is called absorption.
• The inner surface of small intestine has millions of tiny, finger–like projections
called villi (singular: villus). It further divides into microvilli.
• The villi are richly supplied with blood vessels or capillaries.
• Function of villi and microvilli-Presence of villi gives the inner walls of the small
intestine a very large surface area which helps in the absorption of digested food
through the blood vessels present in villi.
