Similar Figures:

Two geometrical figures are said to be similar figures, if they have the same shape
but not necessarily the same size.

               Exa:

If two figures are similar, then one can be obtained from the other either by shrinking
or by stretching without changing its shape. There is one-to-one correspondence
between the parts of two similar figures.

*All congruent figures are similar but all similar figures are not congruent.

               *Similar Polygons:

Two polygons of same number of sides are similar, if

(i)all the corresponding angles are equal

(ii)all the corresponding sides are in the same ratio(or proportion)

If only one condition from (i) and(ii) is true for two polygons, then they may not be
               similar.

Exa: Two examples of a pair of similar and non-similar figures.

               Solution:

(i)Examples of similar figures (a)Two squares of different size (b)Two regular
               hexagons of different size

               (ii)Examples of Non-similar figures

(a)Two isosceles triangles with different angles measures

(b)Two rhombus with different angle measures.

Example: State whether the given quadrilaterals are similar or not

               Solution:

                                                            2
