Rule 2: The verb in or, either…or, or neither…nor sentences
agree with the noun or pronoun closest to it.
Examples: Neither the plates nor the serving bowl goes on that shelf.
(Subject closest to the verb) (Verb)
Neither the serving bowl nor the plates go on that shelf.
Rule 3: Collective nouns are singular and take singular verb.
Here are some examples:
Examples: The committee of members meets here every Thursday.
