Capitalist Working Class
• Marx believed that capitalist society would give way to
socialism.
• Capitalist society marked by the process of Alienation
The economic exploitation and inhuman working conditions lead
to the increasing alienation of man.
• Marx identified 4 specific ways in which alienation has
spread through the capitalist society.
1) Humans are alienated from nature
2) Humans are alienated from each other: Capitalism
regards workers as objects of labour. Capitalism leads to
individualises. Relationships become more market
mediated.
Alienated from the fruits of its labour/ product of labour: because
whatever worker produces it is owned by capitalist.
3) Alienated from themselves: As the control of their lives are in
the hand of capitalist.
Marx’s conception of the economy was based on the notion of a
mode of production
• Primitive Communism , slavery , feudalism and capitalism
were all modes of production.
• At a more specific level consists of superstructure.
• It includes the production forces and production relations.
It refers to all the economic relationships and forms of labour
organisation which are involved in production.
