• He was very concerned about the problem of objectivity in
social sciences. So he developed methodological tool Ideal
type.
It is a mental construct like a model for the systematic
characterisation of a concrete situation. It is a methodological tool
that understand and analyse social reality. It was also used by
Weber to analyse the relationships between the Ethics of ‘World
religions’ and the rationalisation of the social world in different
civilisation.
AUTHORITY:
3 types of Authority. They are:
a) Traditional Authority
b) Charismatic Authority
c) Rational- Legal Authority.
BUREAUCRACY:
• The word implies a particular system of administration.
• It is been associated with the rule of government and
government officials.
• According to Max Weber “ Bureaucracy is a type of
hierarchical organisation which is designed rationally to
coordinate the work of many individuals in pursuit of large
scale administrative tasks’’.
• He also said that “ Bureaucracies are organised according to
rational principles, officials ranked in a hierarchical order and
operations are characterised by impersonal rules”.
CHARACTERISTICS OF BUREAUCRACY:
1) Functioning of officials
2) Hierarchical ordering of positions
3) Reliance on written documents
4) Office Management
5) Conduct in office.
