Properties: It is white crystalline solid and less
soluble in water.
Uses:
It is used in fire extinguisher.
It is used as antiseptic and antacid.
BIOLOGICAL IMPORTANCE OF Na AND K
Sodium ions participate in the transmission of nerve
signals, in regulating the flow of water across the cell
membranes and in transport of sugars and amino
acids to cells.
Potassium ions are more within cell fluids, where
they activate many enzymes, participate in oxidation
of glucose to ATP.
