Halides:
Prepared by reaction of oxide, hydroxide or
carbonate with aqueous hydrohalic acid.
The melting points of metallic halides follow this
order: MF > MCl > MBr > MI
All halides are soluble in water except LiF which has
low solubility due to its high lattice energy.
CsI has low solubility due to small hydration energy.
Salts of Oxo-acids:
Oxo acids are those in which the acidic proton is on a
hydroxyl group with an Oxo group attached to the
same atom e.g. H CO [OC (OH) ].

CAUSE OF ANOMALOUS PROPERTIES OF LITHIUM
(i)Exceptionally small size of its atom and ion.
(ii)High polarizing power.
(iii)Diagonal relationship to magnesium.
(iv)High ionization enthalpy.
