Uses of Polyester:

 Polyester is used to make pants, shirts, suits and bed sheets either by itself or as a blend.

 Polyester mixed with cotton (called Polycot or Terrycot) is used for making shirts, trousers

               and other dresses.

 Polyester is also mixed with wool (called Polywool or Terrywool) for making suits.

 Polyester being light, strong and non-stretchable, it is used for making sails of sail-boats.

 It is used for making water hoses for fire-fighting operations and conveyer belts too.

 Its water- resistant property makes it ideal for garments & jackets that are to be used in wet

               or damp environments.

            PET:

 PET is a familiar form of polyester and is the abbreviation of the synthetic polymer called as

               ‘Poly Ethylene Terephthalate’.

 PET can be made into a fibre or a plastic.

 PET is very lightweight, naturally colourless, strong and impact-resistant.

 PET, as a plastic, acts as a replacing material for glass.

 Unlike that of glass, PET is shatterproof and is used to make bottles, jars and utensils.

 PET is also used for making thin films and many other automobile products such as wiper
arms, engine covers, electrical encapsulations, etc.

 PET is obtained by the esterification reaction between terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol.
