SHAPE OF CELLS
Some cells have fixed shapes and some cells do not have fixed shapes or having
irregular shapes. The shape of different types of cells are different. The shape of cells is
related to the functions performed by them. Shape of cells is provided by cell
membrane in animal cells which is the outermost covering of all animal cells. In plant
cells, an additional covering is present over cell membrane. Cell wall provides shape
and rigidity to plant cells.
Cells having no definite shapes
In Amoeba, the shape of cell changes due to formation of projections called
pseudopodia. The pseudopodia facilitates movement and help in capturing food.
White blood cells(WBC) present in our blood change their shape. They fight against
diseases and protect our body. They move to site of action by changing their shape and
engulf the microorganisms .
