CHAPTER - ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Students will:
1. Construct sentences
using active and passive
voice.
2. Use the Make-a-Map tool to identify examples from the movie of
active and passive voice.
3. Identify sentences as active or passive.
4. Rewrite sentences from active to passive and passive to active.
5. Analyse a comic for voice and write their own.
6. Distinguish between active and passive voice in sentences.
7. Understand why active or passive voice is appropriate to use in
certain contexts.
8. Create sentences in the active and passive voice.
9. Define and identify passive and active voice.
10.Revise sentences and essays for passive voice.
Key points:
o Sentences in the active voice have the subject before the verb.
o Sentences in the passive voice put the subject after the verb, if it’s
there at all. In a passive voice sentence, the verb is always a form
of “to be.”
o Sentences in the active voice use stronger verbs.
o Sentences in the active voice are shorter than their passive voice
counterparts, and they pack more of a punch.
