 Plants are essential for the existence of life on earth. They not only provide us food but also

oxygen. All living things need oxygen for breathing. We also obtain many useful products
from plants such as wood, rubber and fibres for clothing. Thus, we depend on plants in
                   many ways.
 If the number of plants on earth decreases then the amount of oxygen and food for animals
would be reduce, posing a threat to animal and human lives. Therefore , along with animals
and human beings, plants too need to reproduce.
 We see different type of plants growing around us.
 These plants increase in no. by the process of reproduction.

               REPRODUCTION

 The process of producing new individuals from its parents is called reproduction.
 Plant reproduction is the process by which plants produce new individuals, or offspring.
 Reproduction is defined as the process by which living organisms produce young ones of

                   their own kind.
 It is an inherent characteristic of all living organism to continue or maintain their races by
                   the mechanism of reproduction.
 Let’s see different modes of reproduction in plants.

 Different ways of reproduction in plants:

 There are different ways by which plants reproduce. They can grow from different plants
parts such as seeds, stems, roots and leaves.

 Plants mainly reproduce by 2 ways, they are :
                       1. Reproduction through seeds.
                       2. Reproduction through other parts of plant.

               1. Reproduction from seeds

 Seeds are important for plants, as most plants grow from seeds but not all.
 All seeds cannot grow into new plants.
 Some seeds are eaten up by birds and insects.
 Some seeds get destroyed by rain or wind.
 Some seeds do not get sufficient air, water, or warmth to grow.
 If the seed survives and gets the right amount of water, air, warmth from sun, it will
produce a baby plant or seedling.
