We observe that the end point B is 5 small divisions ahead of 3cm mark.

So, the length of AB line segment is 3 cm 5 mm or 3.5 cm.

 Drawing and Naming Line Segment

Example 1: Draw a line segment of length 7.7 cm.

Method

Place the ruler on the plane of the paper and hold it firmly.

Mark a point with a fine pencil against the zero centimetre mark of the ruler.

By sliding the pencil gently along the edge of the ruler draw a line segment upto the
7.7 cm mark on the ruler.

Name the starting point P and ending point R.

Then, PR line segment = 7.7cm
