Vertical Subtraction :

• Step 1 – Subtracting ones, as 4 < 5 ,we

borrow 1 ten from tens column , leaving

behind 2 ten so it will be (10+4)-5=14-5=9

• Step 2- Subtracting tens ,as we are left

with 2 tens in tens column so 2-1=1

• Step 3- Subtracting hundreds, as 8< 9, we

borrow 1 thousand from thousand column,

leaving behind 3 thousand ,so 18-9 =9

• Step 4 – Subtracting thousands, as we are

left with 3 thousand, 3< 8, so borrow 1 ten
thousand from ten leaving 6 in ten

thousand. Thousand column 13-8=8.

• Step 5 – Subtracting 3 ten

thousands from 6 ten thousand. Ten

Thousand column 6-3=3.
