When there is a word problem based on money, then we start the statement like – “Amount of
money….”
OR
“Cost of….”
Example 2:
Mr Gupta bought a grinder mixer set of ₹ 3485, a quilt for ₹ 2783 and a bag for ₹ 847. How
much money he has to pay in all?
Solution:
Cost of a grinder mixer=₹3485 Th H T O
2 2 1
3 4 8 5
Cost of a quilt=₹2783 + 2 7 8 3
+ 8 4 7
Cost of bag=₹847
= 7 1 1 5
Total cost of all the items=₹3485+₹2783+₹847= ₹7115
Thus, Mr Gupta has to pay ₹7115 in all.
LEARNING OUTCOME: students are able to add two numbers in story sums using column
method.
