LP 2 – Division by grouping
Learning objective: Students will be able to recognize division as a process
of equal grouping.
Division is an operation that is used to find how many equal groups there
are or how many are in each group.
I have 8 smiley stickers.
I want to distribute 2 smiley stickers to each of my friends. But I don’t know
among how many friends I can distribute these 8 smileys. So, let’s start
distribution:
We can see that by distributing in this way we get 4 groups. So, from this
distribution I understood that if I give 2 smileys to each of my friends then I can
distribute 8 smileys among my 4 friends.
In maths, distribution refers to Division. From this division we are getting to
know the number of groups in which we can distribute equal number of
objects. So, this is known as Division by grouping. From here I can write the
following sentence.
