Singular and plural nouns
One person,place,animal or thing
Ex: man,park,lion,pencil
We add -
Singular -s to most of the nouns.Ex lions,pencils etc
'es' to the singular nouns ending in 'x, s,sh,ch,ss,z'.Ex -
Nouns boxes,buses etc
Plural
By changing 'y' to 'ies' if the noun ends with y and is preceded by a
consonant
Ex -babies,ladies
if the noun ends in 'y' preceded by a vowel, we add only 's'
.Ex:monkeys,keys etc
In most cases if the singular noun ends in 'f' or 'fe' the plural is made by
the singular noun ends in 'y' preceded by a vowel we add only 's'
changing 'f' or 'fe' into 'ves'.Ex-leaves,wolves etc
There are some exceptional plural nouns. Ex- deer-
deer,man-men etc
Learning objective: The students will be able to learn about singular and plural
nouns.
When a noun refers to a single person,animal or thing It is said to be singular
noun.
When a noun refers to many persons,animals or things it is said to be plural
noun.
A singular nouns changes into plural nouns in many ways,
1. By adding’s’ to the singular nouns.
Example- book-books, cup-cups, pencil- pencils, eraser-erasers
2. By adding 'es' to the singular nouns ending in 'x, s,sh,ch,ss,o'
Example- fox-foxes, bus-buses, class-classes,brush-brushes, church-
churches, tomato-tomatoes
