                4.  Motivation: It is an inner state that stimulates, energizes and directs the

                    behavior towards achievement of goal. Also it brings progress in action and
                    regulates the pattern of activity.

                    Motivation is essentially a process.

                5.  Motivation Theories:
                    (i)    Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory: Based on the assumption that

                           people are motivated by a series of five universal needs:
                           (a) Physiological needs.

                           (b) Safety needs.
                           (c) Social needs.
                           (d) Ego and esteem needs.

                           (e) Self-actualization needs.
                    (ii)   Mc Clelland’s Theory of Needs: Regardless of culture or gender, people

                           are driven by three motives:
                           (a) Achievement needs.
                           (b) Affiliation needs.

                           (c) Power needs.
