Example (Hydrogenation)-
Hydrogenation reaction- It is the addition of Hydrogen atoms to the carbon atoms
across double/triple bond of an unsaturated hydrocarbon in presence of a catalyst
like Nickel [Ni]/ Palladium [Pd]/ Platinum [Pt] to form the correspondingsaturate
hydrocarbon [Alkane].
Hydrogenation of Ethene to Ethane-
Hydrogenation of Ethyne to Ethane-
This reaction takes place in 2 steps, where there is an addition of 2 molecules of
hydrogen across the C≡C bond.
Example- Conversion of Ethyne to Ethane:
Step-1 HC≡CH + H 2--Ni H 2C=CH 2
Ethyne Ethene
Step-2 H 2C=CH 2 + H 2--Ni H 3C-CH 3
Ethene Ethane
