Alicyclic hydrocarbons (Cyclo-Alkanes)-
Alicyclic hydrocarbons are those compounds which contain ring of3 or more
carbon atoms which resemble aliphatic (acyclic) hydrocarbons in their properties.
Examples-
1. Cyclo-propane- C H
3 6
2. Cyclo-butane- C H
4 8
3. Cyclo-pentane- C H
5 10
4. Cyclo-hexane- C H
6 12
FIG- Cyclo-Hexane (C6H12)
Aromatic hydrocarbons-
An aromatic hydrocarbon is a cyclic hydrocarbon with alternating double and
single bond.
The most common example is Benzene (Molecular Formula-C 6H 6)
