P. 3
Notes:
In maths, every digit in a given number has a place value.
Place value can be defined as the value represented by a
digit in a given number on the basis of its position or place
in the number.
Here’s an example showing the relationship between the place or
position and the place value of the digits in a number.
Ex: In the double digit number 48
4 is in tens place and its place value is 40,
8 is in ones place and its place value is 8.
Single digit numbers from 1-9 are written under ones place and
their place value is denoted as 1 ones, 2 ones, 3 ones … and so
on.
From 10 onwards we get double digit numbers , which is written
under tens and ones.
Ex: 10 has 1 in tens place and 0 in ones place
14 has 1 in tens place and 4 in ones place
23 has 2 in tens place and 3 in ones place
Learning outcome: Children can identify place value of each digit
in a given number.
Lesson 3.Tens and ones
Learning objective: Children will learn about tens and ones.
