Activities
Shadow Puppet Activity
The students can make shadow puppets and act out a story on a screen:
Objective:- Observe how different distances affect shadow size and clarity.
Material:- Scissors, glue, pencils, marker, black chart paper, translucent
paper/tissue paper, cardboard/ any old cereal box, torchlight
Process:-
1. Make cutouts of different animals, people, or objects
that you want to use for the puppet show.
2. Tape each puppet to a stick or straw to hold it (like a
handle).
3. Create a simple puppet theatre by cutting out a window
on one side of a cardboard box.
4. Tape tissue paper across the window to act as the
screen.
5. Place a flashlight or lamp behind the puppets and point
it toward the screen.
6. Make sure the room is dark so the shadows are visible
on the screen.
7. Stand behind the screen with your puppets and move
them between the light and the screen to cast shadows.
8. Change the distance to show larger or smaller shadows.
