NOTES:

Characteristics of a shadow
• An opaque screen or surface is required for the shadow formation. In the
absences of the screen, no shadow will be seen.
• Irrespective of the colour of the object, the shadow is always black.
• A shadow shows only the outline or the shape of the object and not the
details.
• A small object will have a small shadow, whereas a large object will have a
larger shadow.

Variation of the size of the shadow:
1. When the distance between the object and the source of light is decreased, the
shadow becomes larger.
2. When the distance between the object and the source of light is increased, the
shadow becomes smaller.
