Paragraph-4
He continued, "Oh king, I ask you: what is worth seeing in this body
of bones, blood, flesh, and fat? The true essence, which observes all
without attachment and exists eternally, is formless and cannot be
seen. Tell me, does a bent body imply a bent soul? If a river is curved,
does that mean its water is also curved?"
Paragraph-5
With the king's permission, Ashtavakra engaged in a debate with the
learned men and ultimately triumphed over them. Impressed by
Ashtavakra’s self-knowledge and mastery of the scriptures, King
Janaka expressed his gratitude, saying, "Oh great sage, I am thankful
for our meeting and wish to offer you a gift."Ashtavakra replied, "If you
wish to give me something, then grant me that which truly belongs to
you."
Janak- Should I give my state ?
Astavakra- State is not yours. This is achieved from heredity.
Janak- Should I give money ?
Astavakra- Money is not yours. This has come from public.
Janak- Should I give my body?
Astavakra- Soul is the owner of body and not you.
Janak- Should I give my mind?
Astavakra- Okay.Let it be . You give me your mind.
Janak- Oh God ! I give my mind to you.Now you order me for the affairs
of the state.
Astavakra- How you will perform the duties of state ? Your mind is with
me, Without your mind you will not be able to take decisions.
Janak- (In mind) What state I have got ? In calm mind there is
experience of external happiness. How should I behave in the world ?
I am not able to discuss,nor think,no yajna,nor
sacrifice ,nor status, nor able to wander. How should I serve the people
,when I am unable to think, show me the path.Only you are my
Lord.(He falls down on feet).
