LN – Word problems on division

               Learning Objective:

                   • Learners will understand and apply division to solve real-life word
problems, using appropriate strategies such as mental calculation,
                       number lines, or short division.

                   • Learners will interpret remainders meaningfully in context (e.g., round

up, drop, or use as a fraction).

               KEY VOCABULARY

                   • Divide
                   • Share equally
                   • Groups
                   • Each
                   • Altogether
                   • Remainder

Step 1: Explain Division in Real Life

                   • Give an example: “There are 12
oranges. If 4 children share them

equally, how many will each get?”

               Step 2: Model the Problem

                   • Use counters or draw circles for
                       children.

                   • Divide 12 counters into 4 groups.

Step 3: Write the Number Sentence

                   • 12 ÷ 4 = 3
                   • Each child gets 3 oranges.

               Step 4: Discuss Remainders

                   • Example: 17 pencils put in boxes of 5.
