What Are Negative Numbers?
• Negative numbers are less than 0.
• They have a minus sign (-) in front.
• Example: -12, -25, -38
Where Do We Use Negative Numbers?
• Weather: -20°C is colder than -5°C
• Depth: A fish is at -30 meters below sea level
• Games or points: Losing points like -15
How to Compare Negative Numbers
• A number that is more negative is smaller.
• Think of it as further below zero on the number line.
Example:
• Which is greater: -28 or -15?
Answer: -15 is greater
• Which is smaller: -10 or -40?
Answer: -40 is smaller
