LN- Ordering and Comparing Negative Numbers

               Learning Objectives:

               Students will be able to:

                   • Understand what negative numbers are and where they are used in real life.

                   • Identify and read negative numbers on a number line.

                   • Compare negative numbers using mathematical symbols: <, >, and =.

                   • Use number lines to visualize and solve problems involving negative numbers.

               What Are Negative Numbers?

                   • Negative numbers are less than 0.

                   • They have a minus sign (-) in front.

                   • Example: -12, -25, -38

Where Do We Use Negative Numbers?

                   • Weather: -20°C is colder than -5°C

                   • Depth: A fish is at -30 meters below sea level

                   • Games or points: Losing points like -15

               How to Compare Negative Numbers

                   • A number that is more negative is smaller.

                   • Think of it as further below zero on the number line.

               Example:

                   • Which is greater: -28 or -15?
                          Answer: -15 is greater

                   • Which is smaller: -10 or -40?
                          Answer: -40 is smaller
