P. 2
Subtopic: 3.2 Forma+on of the solar system
Ac+vity: Solar System Storyboard – The Birth of Our Solar System
Learning Objec+ve:- To work in groups and create a visual story (storyboard) that explains how the
Solar System was formed and why planets move the way they do.
Materials required:- A large sheet of chart paper, crayons, sketch pens, ruler and eraser, glue, and
scissors (if cu_ng and pas)ng images)
Procedure:-
1. Form groups of 3–4 students and take a
large sheet of paper.
2. Divide the paper into 6 panels to create a
storyboard layout.
3. In each panel, draw and label a stage in
the forma)on of the Solar System:
4. A nebula- A large cloud of gas and dust in
space.
5. Forma)on of the Sun- Gravity pulls ma=er
inward, causing most of the gas to gather at
the center, forming a hot, dense ball — the Sun
is born.
6. Spinning disc- Remaining gas and dust
form a flat spinning disc around the new Sun.
7. Forma)on of planets- Par)cles in the disc
s)ck together, forming planetesimals → protoplanets → planets.
8. Solar System today- Show all planets orbi)ng the Sun, most spinning the same way.
a. Add short cap)ons to explain each stage.
b. Include reasons why planets orbit in the same direc)on and why most spin the same way.
Conclusion:- The Solar System formed from a spinning nebula, leading to planets orbi)ng and
spinning in the same direc)on.
Assessment Ques+ons:
1. What was the Solar System made from before the Sun and planets formed?
2. What force caused the nebula to collapse?
3. Why do planets orbit in the same direc)on around the Sun?
