P. 2
1.Asexual Reproduction in Organisms
In asexual reproduction, the plant can give rise to a new plant without the
involvement of seeds.
Only single parent is involved. So, Offspring produced is identical to the
parent.
It has the same inherited characters as the parent plant.
Spore formation, Fragmentation, budding and vegetative propagation are
some of the different methods of asexual reproduction.
(i) Spore Formation
The term is also used to refer to the process of reproduction via spores.
Spores are the tiny, spherical unicellular asexual reproductive units and
are microscopic protected by a tough coat to withstand the unfavourable
conditions.
For example, Ferns and mosses plants, especially in hilly areas, have
spore-producing structures on leaves called sori.
In mosses, spores are produced in structures called capsule while in
ferns, they are produced in sori present on leaves called sporophylls.
When the conditions are favourable, the sori burst and spores are
released into the surrounding area and germinate into new individuals.
