Subtopic- Properties of Magnet

It is mainly used in navigation to find direction on the Earth.

Separating the two poles of a magnet:
 If a magnet is broken into two pieces, each of the resulting two pieces
behaves as a separate magnet.
 Each broken piece will have a north pole and south pole.
 We can never isolate the north and the south poles by breaking a
magnet into several pieces.
 Magnetic poles always exist as a pair.

Attraction and Repulsion of Magnetic Poles
 The north pole of a magnet repels the north pole of another magnet but
attracts its south pole.
 The south pole of a magnet repels the south pole of another magnet
but attracts its north pole.
 Like poles repel each other while unlike poles attract.
