Gandhiji started the Non-
cooperation Movement against
the British in 1921.
The protest grew violent and on

one such occasion an angry mob
o n e s u c h o c c a s i o n a n a n gr y m o b
burnt down a police station at

Chauri Chaura.

Gandhiji wanted to gain freedom

in a peaceful manner, so he

eventually called off the

movement.
