• Partition of Bengal:

• British adopted the policy of Divide and Rule.

• In 1905, Bengal was divided into two parts- one for the Muslims and the

other for the Hindus.

• The Congress launched the Swadeshi Movement to protest against the

Partition.

• British made goods were burnt by throwing them into bonfires.

• The British tried to suppress the movement but failed.
