                           eruption under the sea.

                        •  Submerge an entire coastal area.
                        •  December 2004, Kerala, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu were hit by a
                           tsunami that caused great damage to life and property.

               Landslides:

                        •  A huge mass of land or rock collapses or breaks off from a mountain.
                        •  Destruction to life and property at the foot of the mountains.
                        •  Blocks the flowing water.
                        •  Caused by earthquakes, erosion and by some human activities such as
                           deforestation, heavy vibrationsof machines etc.

               Safety measures:
                           •  People should avoid driving during a landslide.
                           •  Listen radio for any information regarding disasters.
                        People should move to safer places


               Volcanic eruptions:

                        •  When magma comes out of a volcano, it leads to a volcanic eruption.
                        •  Volcanoes also exist in oceans.
                        •  Volcanoes are of three types- extinct, active and dormant.
