Here the poet imagines that there is a man who is waiting for him

upon the stairs. Actually there is no such man in the poet’s house.

The wishes that the imaginary man is not there and he goes away.

The poet in the 2 paragraph says that when he returned home

last night at three, the imaginary man was waiting for him, but the
poet could not see the man anywhere in his house.

In the 3 paragraph the poet asks the imaginary man to go away
and never come back and he repeats the ghost to go away and not

shut the door with force.

In the last paragraph the poet says that the man is not there
and the imaginary man or ghost was not waiting for him and

the poet wishes that he goes away forever.
