Sub topic – Conversion of time - smaller to bigger

The clocks have three hands, the minute hand, the hour hand and the seconds
hand.

 The seconds hand takes 1 minute to go round the clock-face once. The
time taken by the seconds hand to move from one small division to the

next is called a second.
 There are 60 seconds in a minute.

Therefore, 1 minute = 60 seconds.

 The minute hand takes 1 hour to go round the clock-face once. The time
taken by the minute hand to move from one marking to the next

marking is called a minute.
 There are 60 minutes in a hour.

Therefore, 1 hour = 60 minutes.
 It takes 24 hours to complete one day.
 Therefore, 1 day = 24 hours.

The order of units of time is as follows:

Seconds < Minutes < Hours < Days < Weeks

In order to convert the units of time from a smaller to higher unit we have to
follow the following steps:

a) To convert seconds to minutes divide by 60.
b) To convert minutes to hours divide by 60.
c) To convert hours to days divide by 24.

d) To convert days to weeks divide by 7.
