P. 3
The poet is saying that whoever is listening to hear this story should try to grab
the best out of it. It often happens that children behave like the neighbour and
refrain themselves from helping someone.
And the good natured ant who assisted his brother
May teach those who choose to be taught,
That if little insects are kind to each other,
Then children most certainly ought.
The poet is trying to state that the big brother who helped the little ant is sharing
a lesson that if little insects can be kind to each other, then children should follow
the same without giving a second thought. If the children at this tender age learn
helping their fellow being, then they will surely turn into a highly compassionate
human being.
The poem is about understanding feelings of others and giving love
and care to others. Being kind, being sensitive to the plight of
others around us and showing that we care are values of an upright
individual. Such people, who like big brother in the poem, help
others in need. The poem although is on ants, has a deeper
message in it for children. The poet wants children to learn good
values as shown by the big brother in the poem.
