INDOLOGY
• It is an approach to tend to study Indian
society.
• It is a creation of western Scholar.
• The first centre in Indology was started by
Sir William Jones at Calcutta in 1784 with
the establishment of Asiatic society.

• Appointed as reader at the university of Calcutta, he
helped to set up the first post graduate anthropology
department in India.
• Awarded an honarary doctorate by German University.
• Received the titles of ‘Rao Bahadur’ and ‘Dewan Bahadur’
by Cochin state.
