               Experiment-2

Aim of the experiment: To study the permanent slides of Striated, Unstriated and
               Cardiac muscles.

Materials Required:Permanent slides of animal tissue, compound microscope.

               Procedure:

                  1. Clean the microscope and adjust the light in microscope.

                  2. Place the prepared slide of tissue on the stage of microscope and focus first at
low power and then at high power.

                  3. Observe the structure of tissues and draw the diagram of tissues as seen
                     under microscope.

               Observation:

                1. Striated Muscles
 They are long, cylindrical, unbranched muscle cells
which bear striations in the form of alternate light and
                           dark bands.
 Ends are blunt. A number of oval nuclei occur
                           peripherally in each cell.
 They work under the control of will. They are voluntary.
 They occur in arms, legs, neck, face, body wall,
                           tongue, pharynx etc.
                   2. Unstriated muscles
 Muscle tissue that contracts without conscious
control, having the form of thin layers or sheets
made up of spindle-shaped, unstriated cells with
                       single nuclei
 It is found in the walls of the internal organs, such
as the stomach, intestine, bladder, and blood
                       vessels, excluding the heart.
