Home Assignment-II (Experiment)
Experiment-1
Aim of the experiment: To study the permanent slides of Plant Tissues
(Parenchyma, Collenchyma, Sclerenchyma)
Materials Required:Permanent slides of Plant Tissues (Parenchyma, Collenchyma,
Sclerenchyma), compound microscope
Procedure:
1. Observe the prepared slides of all the plant tissues one by one.
2. First focus the slide at low power and then observe it at high power.
3. Study the characteristics and draw the diagrams in your notebook.
Observation:
Identifying characters:
1. Parenchyma (TransverseSection)
They form basic packing tissue. Cells of this tissue are relatively
unspecialized and may be oval, rounded or elongated in shape.
Their cell wallsare thin. These cells are living.
They show large intercellular spaces.
Cytoplasm is dense with a small nucleus.
2. Collenchyma (Transverse Section)
Collenchyma cells are elongated cells with irregularly thick cell walls that
provide support and structure.
Their thick cell walls are composed of the compounds cellulose and pectin.
These cells are often found under the epidermis, or the outer layer of cells in
young stems and in leaf veins.
