L’IMPERATIF
The imperative mood is used to give orders, advices expressing request or making suggestions.
In french, imperative mood is formed by conjugated the verbs into present tense according to
tu,nous, vous but without mentioning tu,nous,vous before the verbs.
Point to remember
1. Conjugate the given verbs into present tense corresponding to the pronoun tu, nous,
vous.
2. Do not mention tu,nous,vous before the verb.
3. Cancel the last s in tu conjugation only for the –er verbs.
4. Put an exclamation mark at the end.
Note : The verbs ‘falloir’, ‘pouvoir’and ‘devoir’ have no imperatives.

Eg. Present -- Impérative
Vous marchez vite. (You walk fast.) – Marche vite ! (Walk fast.)
Exceptions : etre, avoir, savoir, and vouloir are the only verbs that are irregular in the
imperative.
