Industrial Regions:
Industrial regions are formed when a number of industries are located close to each other and
share the benefits of their closeness.
Major industrial regions are located in the temperate areas, near sea ports and near coal-
fields.
Major industrial regions of the world are
o Eastern North America
o Western and Central Europe
o Eastern Europe
o Eastern Asia
In India the industrial regions are the following
o Mumbai-Pune cluster
o Bangalore-Tamil Nadu cluster
o Hugli region
o Ahmadabad-Baroda region
o Chhota Nagpur industrial region
o Vishakhapatnam–Guntur belt
o Kollam–Thiruvanathapuram industrial belt
Industrial regions depend on technological advancement of a country too.
Industrial Disaster
Industrial workers are sometimes required to work in a dangerous environment.
Technical failure due to any lapse in the regular maintenance of technical equipment or
irresponsible handling of hazardous materials may lead to accidents.
There are some risk reduction measures which if followed can prevent large-scale
disasters
Industrial areas should be located far from residential areas.
People living near the industrial areas should be aware of the hazardous materials handled in
these industries and their effects on humans in case of an accident.
