Insulators: Materials that do not allow the heat energy to pass through them easily are
called Insulators.
Plastic, wood, glass, air, water, paper and rubbers are insulators.
All materials that trap air inside their fibres are excellent insulators like wool, fur, foam and
feather to make winter clothes.
Application of conductors:
Base of cooking utensils are made up of copper as it is good conductor of heat and
results in uniform heating and cooking food.
Heating rods are made up of metals as it allows heat energy to pass through them
Application of Insulators:
Woollen clothes are preferred in winter season because wool is an insulator.
Two thin blankets keeps us more warm than one thick blanket as it traps more air which
does not allow body heat to escape to surrounding and keeps us warm.
Igloos present in Polar Regions are made of ice because ice is an insulator who traps heat
and does not allow it escape keeping inside space warm.
Bakelite is used to make handles of cooking utensils to protect our hands from the heat
while cooking because they are good insulators.
