               Lesson Notes:
                   Inequality and Discrimination:(from pg 17-19)
                      Discrimination  occurs  when people are treated unequally and are not given
                        due respect.
                      In  India, people are  discriminated  on  the  basis of  their  caste,  class,  gender,
                        religion,  wealth  and  occupation.
                      Tribals, poor people, some religious groups and even particular regions also
                        experience discrimination.
                    On  being  discriminated  against:
                      The prime reason for discrimination in our country is the caste system.
                      In India caste rules worked to the advantage of upper  caste  and  lower castes
                        always faced discrimination.
                      The  people  of the lower  caste  use  the  word  ‘dalit’. They are considered to
                        be untouchables.
