REPRODUCTION FROM OTHER PARTS OF THE PLANT
Plants also reproduce from their body parts such as stem, leaves, roots and spores.
Reproduction from stem
CUTTING – A part of stem is cut from the parent plant and these stem cuttings have buds on
them. The cut end grows into new plant when placed in moist soil.
For example: ROSE, SUGARCANE, LEMON, and LITCHI
Plants also arise from underground stems.
For example: potato, onion and ginger are underground stems.
Potato has buds on the surface known as ‘eyes’. New plants grow from these buds.

Reproduction from leaves
Some plants also reproduce from their leaves. These leaves have buds in their margins. New
plants grow from these buds.
For example: BUDS IN BRYOPHYLLUM LEAVES
