Formation of sedimentary rocks
•Weathering of rocks causes them to
break into smaller pieces. This also
occurs when the rocks roll down and hit
each other.
•These small pieces of rocks, along with
particles of mud, clay, etc, are known as
sediments.
•These sediments are transported from
one place to another by the action of
water, wind, etc where they get
deposited.
•As this process occurs repeatedly,
different layers of sediments are
deposited. These layers are compressed
and hardened to form layers of rocks,
called sedimentary rocks.
