The coastline of India is divided into:

 Eastern coastal plain
 Western coastal plain

Eastern Coastal Plains

 Lie between the Eastern Ghats and Bay of Bengal.

 Rivers like Godavari, Mahanadi, Krishna and Kaveri bring alluvial soil and form fertile
deltas.

It is divided into:

 Northern Circar-between Mahanadi and Krishna rivers.
 Coromandel Coast-between Krishna and Kaveri rivers.

Important cities-Vishakhapatnam and Chennai (sea ports), Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

Western Coastal Plains

 Lie between Western Ghats and Arabian sea.

 Extends from Gujarat to Kerala
 It is divided into

1.Gujarat coast 2. Konkan coast 3. Malabar coast
